Speech and Debate: August 15-19, 2022

Does your child love the excitement of a debate? During this course, students will learn about different aspects of a debate, including writing opening and closing speeches, cross-examining their opponent's arguments, and active listening amongst other techniques for forming and delivering persuasive arguments. Students will practice using changes in pitch and volume as well as pauses and facial expressions to evoke emotions in their audiences. Students will receive personalized feedback from the instructor and interact with their peers in numerous games, activities, and debates. This course is designed for students ages 8-12 and will take place over Zoom.

Course Times: August 15-19, 1-3PM PST

Cost is just $20 per child. Register by August 13, 2022.

About Our Program

Rising Speakers aims to give Elementary and Middle school students confidence and experience in speech writing and delivery. Our unique curriculum covers debate, storytelling, improvisation, and much more. We provide young speakers with the guidance they need to use their voices as their greatest tool. We help students improve their skills through personalized feedback from instructors and interactions with their peers. Rising Speakers will help young orators master a skill which they will use throughout their lives.

Meet the Founder - Airah Virani

Airah Virani is a Junior at Interlake High School in the International Baccalaureate Program. She started her public speaking journey in 5th grade through the Future Problem Solving Scenario Performance competition, winning a top spot in the state for 4 consecutive years. She has also won debate competitions and spoken at numerous events, becoming a confident public speaker. She looks forward to passing on her passion for many years to come!

Online courses are held over Zoom meetings.

Will students have homework assignments?

Yes, students will be regularly given homework assignments.

Courses are offered for students ages 8 to 12.

How do I pay for courses?

Course payment is via PayPal.

What materials are needed for the course?

Students will need a laptop or desktop computer with a reliable internet connection, a camera, and a microphone. Mobile phone use is not encouraged. All other course materials will be provided.
